Research activities at Finokalia cover a variety of topics relevant to air pollution and climate change in the East Mediterranean. Some of them are listed hereafter: Trends and sources and sinks of greenhouse gases, Oxidizing capacity of the troposphere, Ozone and Aerosols and their precursors, New Particle Formation, Aerosol- cloud interactions, Atmospheric acidity, Aerosol Optical Depth and Radiation changes, Dust and Combustion aerosols, Biogeochemical cycles of Nutrients (nitrogen, iron and phosphorus). Impacts of changes in air quality and climate on human and ecosystem health and the financial sector are also subject of research through strong national collaborations of ECPL with health and ecosystem experts at the University of Crete, the Hellenic Center of Marine Research (HCMR) and the National Observatory of Athens as well as International Collaborators.
